In Memoriam

I learned today (a few days late, I'm sad to say) that Paul Ricoeur has passed away. I'm not prepared at this moment to go into why this matters to me--I just wanted to get this out there asap. Suffice it to say this is a big loss. He was one of our contemporary giants.

Big loss, indeed. I don't know quite how to explain this, but reading Ricoeur, I always got the feeling that he was just a really nice, modest guy, despite being a super-genius. (an impression that was confirmed when I got to chat with Charles Reagan and Dave Stewart, two American Ricoeur scholars).

JPE,
Yeah, Ricoeur seems to exude sensitivity. That's great that you had a chance to interact with Reagan and Stewart. I've benefitted greatly from Reagan's bio of Ricoeur.

Angelito,
Grazie for the references!!
